Lake Okeechobee Fishing Report
2/2/12
Bass up to 10 pounds seem to be the norm these days.
Crappie anglers have been doing well fishing lily pads in five to
seven feet of water along the Rim Canal, and along the edges of the
dynamite holes off the Rim Ditch southeast of Clewiston.
1/20/12
Water level has dropped a little, which has moved the
bass out towards the main lake edge. Fish the outside grass lines
with Gambler Big Ezs and pitch Gambler 10-inch worms to thicker
grass clumps and reeds. Top spots include Pelican Bay, Long Point
and Ritta Island.
11/16/11 On Lake Okeechobee largemouth
bass fishing continues to be red hot with many fish in the six-pound
range being caught along the weedlines on Skinny Dippers, top water
baits, spinner baits and shiners. Speckled perch fishermen continue
to do well on the specks in areas of the Kissimmee River that have
underwater eel grass, and hydrilla and jigs and minnows are the top
baits for the specks.
11/3/11 Water levels are low.
Good bass fishing in clear waters 100 yards or so inside the outside
grass lines, all around Lake Okeechobee. Anglers have spotted bass
fry from recent spawning activity, and expects a good push of larger
bass to move into inside waters. 10/20/11
Fish over 7 pounds are likely from now through
mid-December in the pre-spawn feeding mode. Action is good along the
east shore from J&S Fish Camp to Point of the Reef. As always, wild
shiners are the sure ticket for lunkers, but they readily take
plastic worms and flippin’ baits as well. Also, the boat
canals and entry cuts to the Rim Ditch will produce schooling action
so long as water is flowing.
